Cocos-BCX Reed:For blockchain games development, best options are sidechain for the short-term, OP Rollup for the medium-term, and ZK Rollup for the long-term

Reed said that for current blockchain games development ,it needs to select a public chain which has features on high performance, low rate, good ecology, and complete EVM support. This is also the reason why Cocos-BCX chose to embrace the Ethereum ecology and the BSC ecology.
Finding the new trend of blockchain games development from “Dark Forest”
As a very characteristic blockchain game in recent blockchain games, “Dark Forest” is used by Reed to set an example to illustrate the development trend of blockchain games.
Reed said, “Dark Forest” is a decentralized real-time strategy game, the concept comes from Cixin Liu’s “The Three-Body Problem”, the game content is space conquest. Every point in the game is a planet. Players should continue to explore in the game, conquer another planet from one planet, and constantly upgrade the existing planets to see who conquered more planets in the end.
The game “Dark Forest” was recommended by Vitalik when DeFi was the most trendy. Although this blockchain game is still rudimentary, it has defined a plug-in system. Developers can follow the problems they encounter in this game and develop plug-ins by themselves, which have made “Dark Forest” even a niche, but it has also formed its own ecology.
Based on the open source materials of “Dark Forest”, Reed analyzed the infrastructure of “Dark Forest”: the first layer of the blockchain uses the side chain xDai of Ethereum, the contract uses solidity, and the front end uses web3.js/snarkjs.
With the help of Layer 2 and zero-knowledge proof, “Dark Forest” successfully solved two problems that most blockchain games have been facing: The first one is the frequent interaction between game operations and the blockchain affects the game experience and also causes a burden on the blockchain ; The second one is the black box problem of the game.
In addition, the entire game logic of “Dark Forest” runs on the blockchain, which is different from the previous blockchain games where only the core links and core logic are on the blockchain.
At present, the Layer 2 technology of Ethereum is developing very rapidly, and there are various technical genres. It solves the scalability problem of Ethereum and can fully support the operation of blockchain games. And this is also one of the reasons why Cocos-BCX chose to embrace the Ethereum ecosystem and the BSC ecosystem.

Reed said that based on all above considerations, Cocos-BCX also thought of a strategy when thinking about blockchain travel selection, that is, short-term selection of side chains. For example, BSC can be selected as a typical Ethereum side chain, which can satisfy the chain. In the medium-term, we choose OP Rollup, because OP Rollup’s EVM support is perfect, and the migration cost will be very low for developers. In the long-term, it depends on ZK Rollup. If ZK Rollup solves the EVM problem well, and is like his lastest launch of zkPorter, and the TPS could reach 20,000, then it can support the operation of many applications.
At the end of the sharing, Reed quoted from Yuanqi Forest’s founder Binsen Tang, saying “Don’t plant trees in the desert”, but plant trees in the lush Amazon rainforest. He further stated that the most profound experience of blockchain in the past few years is to embrace the Ethereum ecosystem.
Taking the DeFi boom as an example, when ETH plummeted last year, everyone thought that Ethereum might be over, but in last July and August, DeFi came up.
